Darfur Now

Rated PG 98 minutes 2007

Theodore Brauns useful documentary brings us up to speed on the humanitarian disaster in Sudans Darfur region, where by all appearances a racial war of genocide is being waged by Arabic-speaking nomads (the notorious devils on horseback) against black African tribal villages. Both sides are Muslim. We follow six activists - a local sheikh, a UN relief worker, the international prosecutor pursuing a case against Sudans president, a Los Angeles volunteer for a Sudan divestment movement, a female rebel in Darfur, and actor Don Cheadle, shown with fellow thesp George Clooney stumping among world leaders on behalf of the oppressed. Worth seeing (99 min., 2007).
