When: Sat., May 3, 8 p.m. 2014
Downtown Berkeley has plenty of music, film, and theater offerings, and now the vibrant arts scene also features dance. In November, Kathryn Roszak of Berkeley’s Danse Lumière launched Dance on Center, a series of themed performances at the Osher Studio (2055 Center St., Berkeley). On Saturday, Dance on Center will host its first formal performance with contemporary ballet pieces created by women, who are a decided minority among choreographers. Dancers from Ballet San Jose will perform scenes from Dalia Rawson’s fairy-tale-inspired “No Longer Human,” while Los Angeles-based choreographer Lissa Resnick will contribute a piece inspired by Mulholland Drive and Roszak will show excerpts from her interpretation of “The Rite of Spring.” San Francisco’s sublime ballet-maker Amy Seiwert recently branched into film, and the evening will also include her “Barn Dance.” Seating is limited; advance ticket purchase is recommended.
