C.S. Giscombe

C.S. Giscombe's poetry volume Giscome Road -- pondering places in Canada named after a Jamaican miner whose name is similar to his own -- won a Carl Sandburg Award. (Sample lines: "hed been pleasuring 2 women,/one black & one white, when it happened, the blood/to the leg having 'herniated' because of fucking them/at the same time.") Giscombe reads on Nov. 28 in the Soda Activity Center at Saint Mary's College (1928 Saint Mary's Rd., Moraga). A winner of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Fund for Poetry, and the Canadian Embassy, he now teaches at UC Berkeley. 7:30 p.m., $3. StMarys-CA.edu/mfa
