Crazy After All These Years

When: Dec. 1-26 2008

Six teachers at Richmond's National Institute of Art & Disabilities -- Barbara Bradlee, Andres Cisneros-Galindo, Janet Moore, Tomoko Murakami, Brian Stechshulte, and Carol J. Stewart -- explore the human condition in artworks at the State of California Office Building gallery. Bradlee creates painted and ceramic portraits of her therapy dog, Crash, and other real and imagined animals, while Cisneros-Galindo makes fictive fresco paintings on the themes of cultural memory. Moore makes wool and raffia tapestries based on dreams and fantasies, sometimes in collaboration with NIAD artist Saul Alegria. Murakami creates huge, theatrical woodcuts on heroic themes on painted and printed silk, or wooden panels, while Stechshulte makes comic-surreal paintings exploring the hidden byways of the body. Stewart creates eccentric mixed-media sculptures on spiritual themes using found and manipulated objects. Crazy After All These Yearsruns through December 26 at the Craft & Cultural Arts Gallery (1515 Clay St., Oakland). OaklandCulturalArts.org or 510-622-8190
