Count Dante

When: Fri., Dec. 7, 9 p.m. 2007

Count Dante is shrouded in mystery. What we know: He's big and tall. He and his band, the Black Dragon Fighting Society, hail from the Peninsula. Together they play cocksure rock 'n' roll à la Alice Cooper with absurdly funny lyrics (witness "Come to My Seminar" and "Hofbrau Lady" on 2006's Fat Power). What we don't know: Everything else, such as, what's with the martial arts and motivational speaking fascinations? Was Count Dante truly an announcer and heavyweight in the now-defunct Incredibly Strange Wrestling league? And, most pressing, with Dante's official endorsement, will Connecticut Senator Chris Dodd's "powerful hair" propel him to the presidency? Further investigation required Friday night at the Uptown, when Santa Cruz rockabilly act Los High Tops and Santa Clara goth-punk group the Telltale Heartbreakers open for Count Dante and the Black Dragon Fighting Society. Friday, Dec. 7. $8, 9 p.m. UptownNightclub.com.
