Costco Back in at Oakland Army Base?

As the auto dealership plan stalls out, the Oakland Tribune reports that Costco has started flirting with the idea of planting a big box store at the West Oakland army base once more. The recession has seriously damaged the cash reserves of Broadway's auto dealers, who wanted to move to the base because of both land constraints and rising rents squeezing them out of the city, and they no longer have the financial resources to make the move. Now, Costco reps have again expressed interest in building a store on a 27-acre piece of land. But don't get your hopes up; Oakland's seen army base development deals take shape and die too many times to count, and the Trib reports a Costco official as calling the site "on his three- to five-year wish list, along with about 250 other locations around the country." You can't get more tentative than that.
