Before opening Copper Spoon, Vita Simone and Carmen Anderson operated the funky Sassafras Seagrass food truck, serving fresh California fare atypical for mobile food. With their first brick-and-mortar restaurant, they recruited a fine dining chef, brought some Sassafras favorites back, and decorated the space with nods to Oakland’s history of Black culture. The result is a lovable, eclectic hub for innovative plates that pair well with smoky, mezcal cocktails.
