Concord Coach Teaches Women's Boxing in Afghanistan



From the Chron comes the heartwarming story of the day. Tareq Shawl Azim, a resident of Concord who fled Afghanistan after the 1979 Soviet invasion, has returned to Kabul to help rebuild his country. And how is he doing it? By teaching young Afghan women how to box! Azim, a former college heavyweight, hopes to field a women's boxing team at London's 2012 Olympics, and trains the girls in the old stadium where the Taliban used to publicly execute women.
