Company C Contemporary Ballet's Spring Season

When: May 14-15, 8 p.m. 2010

Company C Contemporary Ballet's spring bill offers something for everyone. The up-and-coming troupe's ambitious program starts with Beautiful Maladies, an elegant piece created by company founder and artistic director Charles Anderson and set to a suite of Chet Baker ballads. The company also takes on Twyla Tharp's Surfer on the River Styx, an edgy, athletic tour de force inspired by Euripides' The Bacchae and backed by Donald Knaack's percussive score played on gas cans, wrenches, and found objects. The evening bubbles to a close with boink!, Val Caniparoli's effervescent cocktail set to Juan García Esquivel's swinging lounge tunes. Company C performs at Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Civic Dr., Walnut Creek) on Friday and Saturday, May 14 and 15. 8 p.m., $18-$40. 925-943-7469 or
