Rock & Pop

When: Sun., April 13, 7 p.m. 2014

The increasing popularity of metal has led to a proliferation of bands that experiment with the template of heavy music. Cloudkicker is one of the better ones — its progressive instrumental music is at times uplifting, forlorn, and technically commanding. And it’s all the more impressive considering there’s just one dude behind the project — Ben Sharp, a Columbus, Ohio-based musician who plays all the guitar and bass parts and then painstakingly programs the (very realistic-sounding) drums. Thus far, he has never toured — until now. Backed by the members of Los Angeles prog-metal outfit Intronaut — who share the bill, opening for TesseracT — Sharp will bring his songs to the DNA Lounge (375 11th St., San Francisco) on Sunday. Judging from video of the tour so far, Intronaut is more than up to the task of bringing these epic tunes to life.
