Clerestory

When: Sun., Sept. 28, 5 p.m. 2008

The eight-member Clerestory vocal ensemble, most of whose members once sang with Chanticleer, launches its season with a concert entitled Explorations. The boys accept a major challenge when they tackle seven-part works by Claude Le Jeune, MatthaeusPipelare, and Carlo Gesualdo. From the 20th century comes Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Five Folk Songs," while the present brings works by Paul Crabtree, Clerestory singer and founder Jesse Antin, and San Francisco Conservatory composition students MinnaChoi and IlyaDemutsky. I have yet to hear this ensemble, but all reports are that they're fab. At St. Mark's Episcopal Church (2300 Bancroft Way, Berkeley) on Sunday, September 28, 5 p.m., $17, $20, $10 for students and seniors.Clerestory.org.
