When: Thu., Sept. 3, 8 p.m. 2009
The long-anticipated Classical Revolution is happening in San Francisco this week. The chamber ensemble, which draws its ever-changing membership from organizations as excellent and diverse as the San Francisco Orchestra, Berlin Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, and top conservatory classes, is the resident ensemble of the Red Poppy Art House in the Mission. With its goal of expanding classical music's audience by performing in bars, cafes, art galleries, and other "accessible venues," Classical Revolution chapters currently exist in Portland, Reno, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and, of course San Francisco. At Red Poppy Art House (2698 Folsom St., San Francisco), Thursday, September 3 at 8 p.m. (doors open 7:30 p.m.). Free. 415-826-2402.
