Rock & Pop

When: Sat., Dec. 22, 9 p.m. 2012

If Churches looked to Nirvana for inspiration for its debut album, the Oakland band now seems to be pining for grandiosity of the Arcade Fire variety, as heard on its new single "Lovelife." A rousing pro-gay-marriage anthem, it's a ridiculously catchy track with a big chorusy hook. The single appears on the band's newly released seven-inch, which also includes a dancey remix of the track by local producer Yalls. The Oakland trio will celebrate its new release at Bottom of the Hill (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Dec. 22, with Tijuana Panthers, Toshio Hirano, and DJ Pat (Churches' drummer, whose DJ sets are loads of fun, btw). 9 p.m., $10, $12.
