Somehow, chichi Peruvian cuisine has become the Bay Area's Next Big Thing, but no one has told Chola's. Yet three-fourths of the strip-mall restaurants clientele are Peruvians who have driven from all over for homey fare like jalea (mixed fried seafood with onions and tomatoes), lomo saltado (stir-fry of beef with onions and french fries), and anticuchos (grilled beef heart). The restaurant only goes baroque with its mountains of ceviche, spicy lime-marinated seafood accompanied by potatoes, yams, hot sauce, and fried corn. Try the lucuma ice cream, imported from Peru.
