Such are the lengths to which an excessive admiration for J.D. Salinger can carry one. Jared Leto is simultaneously fascinating and monotonous - like a voice from the bottom of a well - as Mark David Chapman, the deranged loner who shot and killed former Beatle John Lennon in New York in 1980, after receiving instructions from Salingers The Catcher in the Rye. At least he didnt then go on to become a book reviewer. Writer-director Jarrett Schaefers screenplay suffers a bit in comparison to, say, that of I Shot Andy Warhol. Costarring Lindsay Lohan and Judah Friedlander (84 min.).
