Ogresse, vocalist, composer, and three-time Grammy Award-winner Cécile McLorin Salvant’s new 90-minute song cycle, is a dark fairy tale, telling the story of a devilish monster-woman with a taste for human flesh. Since her first album, 2010’s Cécile , Salvant has been shaking up the jazz world with innovative, and often frightening, talent. Tapping the line of classic Jazz vocalists like Bessie Smith and Abbey Lincoln, the thirty-one-year-old Salvant has been placed along-side them by listeners and critics alike. Over the last decade, she’s garnered praised from Down Beat Magazine for 2014’s Jazz Album of the Year, and won a Grammy for her third album, For One To Love in 2016. No matter how you slice it, when it comes to Jazz, Salvant is a monster.
