Catalyst: One by One

When: Sun., April 17, 3 p.m. 2011

Legends of East Bay music and dance unite in Catalyst: One by One, a world premiere from Oakland's award-winning Dimensions Dance Theater. Choreographed by the company's renowned artistic director, Deborah Vaughan, Catalyst is equally informed by original music by the Mo' Rockin' Project's Khalil Shaneed and Yassir Chadly. The production celebrates tolerance, understanding, and the power of art to transform the world for good - a timelier theme would be hard to find. Performing together onstage, musicians and dancers meld Moroccan melodies and American jazz with dynamic solos and percussive ensembles drawing from both African and modern dance. The raucous, rousing show will be heard for blocks around the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts (1428 Alice St., Oakland) on Sunday, April 17. 3 p.m., $20. 510-465-3363 or
