Magnus August Høiberg (aka Norwegian DJ Cashmere Cat) has been perfecting his turntable skills for more than a decade. From 2006 to 2009, he represented Norway in the annual DMC World DJ Championships. Finally, in 2012, he burst through to the mainstream with sensual, sputtering remixes of songs by pop acts including Lana Del Ray, 2 Chainz, and Jeremih. While his remixes — which also include takes on experimental artists such as Glasser — tend to feature plenty of strange bleeps, glitchy beats, and influences of R&B, he rarely relies on repetition and avoids the common tendency to build songs into a frenzy before dropping the beat. In that way, he’s incredibly refreshing and fun. See him on Thursday at UC Berkeley’s Upper Sproul Plaza.
