Casey Veggies and Travi$ Scott

When: Tue., June 4, 8 p.m. 2013

It's no surprise Travi$ Scott draws significant inspiration from Kanye West -- considering he got his first big break contributing an airtight verse to the G.O.O.D. Music track "Sin City." The influence is clearly heard on the twenty-year-old Houston rapper's debut mixtapeOwl Pharaoh, which bears strong resemblance to Yeezy's post-Late Registration sound: The synth-heavy, drum machine-filled, AutoTune-happy sound of 808s & Heartbreak: hints of Graduation's grandiose stadium rock; and a slight dose of megalomania àla My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The young rapper was just named one of XXL's Freshmen 10 of 2013, alongside not-so-underground heavyweights Schoolboy Q, Action Bronson, Angel Haze, Ab-Soul, and Joey Bada$$, so catch him when he's still at the cusp of being part of hip-hop's next generation of greats. With Casey Veggies at The New Parish (579 18th St., Oakland).
