Carpe Diem

When: March 31-April 28 2014

One of the most notable characteristics of the Bay Area art scene is its tight-knit community. On Saturday, Loakal Gallery (560 2nd St., Oakland) will highlight the area’s diverse talent by inviting twenty local artists to paint simultaneously for 24 hours. Beginning at 8 a.m., each artist will work on a four-by-eight-foot panel. The gallery will be open for the entire 24-hour period, and the public is invited to attend. Participating painters are Jessica Hess, Ian Ross, Hueman, Reggie Warlock, Chris Granillo, Eddie Colla, Cameron Thompson, Brett Amory, Lisa Pisa, Nite Owl, John Wentz, John Casey, Marcos LaFarga, Jet Martinez, Skinner, Cannon Dill, Lauren YS, Zoltron, Daryll Peirce, and Max Kauffman. Not only does Carpe Diem highlight the creative potential packed into a single day, it brings transparency and inclusivity to the creative process. Such a gathering reminds us that every piece of art is, to a certain extent, part of a massive artistic discussion that takes place through the transmission of inspiration.
