Califas: Art of the US-Mexico Borderlands

At a time when the Trump administration is threatening to prevent the migrant caravan coming from Central America to ask for asylum in the United States, it is important to learn and understand what’s causing this immigration wave. The team at the Richmond Art Center, which has Califas: Art of the US-Mexico Borderlands / El Arte de la Zona Fronteriza México-Estados Unidos on display through Nov. 16, will host a round-table discussion with Michael Dear and Ronald Rael, co-curators of Califas, along with professor and writer Richard Cándida Smith and professor and writer Norma Iglesias Prieto to discuss border art through the lens of immigrants living in the Bay Area, who are not as directly affected as those who live in border towns. This is your opportunity to ask questions about the complexities of immigration, and what role art plays in the discussion.
