When: Sat., April 30 2011
The notion of home-field advantage is pretty watery when it comes to crew. On Saturday, Apr. 30, the third-ranked University of California women's team is the designated host for a meet against Stanford at Redwood Shores Lagoon (Lagoon Dr., Redwood City), which is considerably closer to the Cardinal than the Campanile. The women's team has to settle for rowing in front of a slew of South Bay rooters, but will gladly take its boat to the rivalry contest, which is the last one before the Pac-10 championships begin in mid-May. The Golden Bears are rowing for themselves and for the memory of coxswain Jill Costello, who died of lung cancer almost a year ago after leading Cal to a Pac-10 crown. All day, free. CalBears.com.
