When: Sat., April 2, 1 p.m. and Sun., April 3, 11 a.m. 2011
The Golden Bears men's baseball team has gotten all the ink this spring as the media has focused on what might be the final season for the hardballers. Lost in the mix is the fact that the Cal women's softball team is climbing back toward the top of their world. The squad is ranked among the nation's top ten as it opens its Pac-10 season at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 1, against Arizona State University for the first game of a weekend series at Levine-Fricke Field (east of Memorial Stadium, Centennial Dr., UC Berkeley). The Blue and Gold are 21-3 and champions of a number of Winter Classic tournaments. The start of league play is the first step toward the NCAA tournament, and maybe the first drop of ink in a year when just finishing the season won't be the whole story. The series continues on Saturday, April 2, at 1 pm., and on Sunday, April 3, at 11 a.m.; $4-$8. Calbears.com.
