Cal Bears Limp into Big Game

UC Berkeley's football program, which was supposed to finance so much of the school's Athletics Department that officials fought a two-year battle to deforest the land near Memorial Stadium, rolled over and died for the second straight week, losing to Oregon State and advancing just one offensive yard in the fourth quarter. Last year, the team never recovered from a shock like this and imploded for the rest of the season. As the Chron's Jake Curtis asks, will the Bears get it together in time for the Big Game against Stanford next Saturday? We'll know in five days.
