Cairo Time

Rated NR 88 minutes 2009

Actor Patricia Clarkson takes center stage in a travelogue-ish. yet quietly captivating, story about an American woman who travels to the title Egyptian capital city in order to meet her diplomat husband – and waits, and waits, and waits for him to return from business out of town. While he’s delayed, she kills time by seeing the sights and delicately flirting with a local man (Alexander Siddig) in the most picturesque manner possible. Canadian writer-director Ruba Nadda’s screenplay is better on-screen than it sounds in outline, largely due to Clarkson’s still-water-runs-deep performance and the majestic scenery. (90 min.)
