Buy Curious — Hot Sales! Hot Events! Hot! Hot!

Some weeks, it seems like nothing's going on at all, not even a piddly yard sale, but apparently, that's cuz everyone's waiting for a certain weekend to have everything. Case in point: this weekend, where an abundance of sales, store anniversaries, and fashion shows will tempt you whether your tastes lean toward Kimora Lee Simmons, funky ‘80s neon, or sublimely urban. And it's all happening in our backyard. Plus, help support Tsunami victims with leather-free bags at a local Oakland boutique. All the info, after the jump…

Twenty-Two Shoes Spring Sale
If you missed last weekend's sample sale, or were too engrossed with the drastically discounted fall finds from the prior season (who, me?), you've got a chance to get in on another deal by the Oakland-based shoemaker. This weekend, head to any of their locations for 30 percent off their spring styles. But this is a VIP sale, so mention the e-mail they sent out to get the discount. Public sale starts Monday, June 23.
When: Now through June 22
Where: 5856 College Ave., Oakland; 2277 Union St., SF

Magnet Three-Year Anniversary
Congratulate owner Camille Mason for not only making it three years in a tough economy, but also for making Magnet one of the best shopping destinations in the East Bay. This weekend, the store celebrates its b-day with a little bubbly, snacks, and - if you arrive early enough - a free pair of Havaiana flip-flops. Pick up a pretty summer frock or chic sunglasses while you're at it, and help support a great local business.
When: Saturday, June 21, 5 p.m.-9 p.m.
Where: 2508 San Pablo Ave., Berkeley

Music! Mimosas! Fashion!
Drift Denim in Old Oakland, along with Herringbone Apothecary & Oneculture, will host a "Mimosas & Denim Sunday" event this weekend. Drift merch will be marked down 15-60 percent off, plus there'll be speciality make-up, music, and mimosas. Sounds like a good time to us!
When: Sunday, June 22, 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Where: Drift Denim, 815 Washington St., Oakland

Jeremy's Summer Half-Off Sale
Not sure whether to tell you to run to this event, or away from it (I'm hardly an aggressive shopper, but the only time I've ever gotten into a nasty catfight was at Jeremy's), but this discount/salvage mecca is having its half-off sale this weekend, starting tomorrow at 9 a.m. If you're brave enough to fight the crowds and the boyfriend/coat-racks, don't be shy about lining up at 8:30 a.m. with your Roma latte in hand. Sale includes their handbags and shoes, but, sorry guys, this is only for the ladies.
When: Saturday & Sunday, June 21 & 22, starting at 9 a.m. Sat.
Where: 2961-2967 College Ave., Berkeley; Two South Park, San Francisco

Baby Phat Women's Sale
If cropped belly jackets are more your speed, check out a Baby Phat promotional sale at the Washington Inn in downtown Oakland this weekend.
When: June 19-21, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Down at Lulu's Two-Year Anniversary
Another local boutique deserves congratulations this weekend. Down at Lulu's celebrates its two-year b-day with a storewide 25 percent off sale. Plenty of items are as dirt-cheap as $1 and $5, so you can use that extra cash to wash down hotdogs and sodas.

Where: 6603 Telegraph Ave., Oakland

August Summer Solstice Sale
No, not the month of August, the chi-chi store August!

Where: 5410 College Ave., Oakland

NIAD's First Fashion Show
Help support the artists at Richmond's National Institute of Art & Disabilities, which provides a safe space for artists with disabilities to hone their craft. The center will show off its students' fine creations with a free fashion show next Thursday. Refreshments, food, and the opportunity to purchase the goods (T-shirts, hats, jeans, skirts, shoes, bags, jewelry) happens at the reception afterward.
When: Thursday, June 26, 6 p.m.
Where: 551 23rd St., Richmond

Mission Statement Grand Opening Block Party
Our friends at Oda have joined a new co-op, Mission Statement. To celebrate, check out their grand opening and store this weekend, featuring raffle prizes, DJs, performances by SFC Double Dutch, and Anthem & Kentura. Hand-embroidered with intricate Banda Aceh designs, they're also leather-free and available for purchase at Micio Mambo in Oakland, which specializes in leather-free, cruelty-free and environmentally friendly products.

Atomic Garden Web Site — Updated!
Speaking of environmentally friendly, Atomic Garden in Oakland finally has an expanded web site, with more details on the green products they carry. (P.S. We finally made it there and have deduced this will quickly become one of our new favorite spots). Check it out.

But Wait! There's More!
But our hand's starting to cramp. So go here and check ‘em out. Got a tip for Buy Curious? Store opening? Sale? Send it to buycurious [at] eastbayexpress [dot] com
