Not recommended for claustrophobics. A man (Ryan Reynolds) wakes up in a coffin-like box buried in the ground, with only his cigarette lighter and a cell phone. That he has been buried by Iraqi insurgents because he works for a US private contractor only adds to the tension. Director Rodrigo Cortés and screenwriter Chris Sparling’s one-joke thriller is naturally a bit limited, but you’d be surprised how many different things can happen to a man in a box. See if you can recognize the voice of character actor supreme Stephen Tobolowsky on the victim’s phone. Otherwise, it’s more or less a smothering experience (95 min.).
