Rated PG-13 99 minutes 2012

Well-meaning but pallid documentary asks us to walk a mile in the shoes of five individual young bullying victims, the better to address what its publicity calls “America’s bullying crisis.” The message: People who care should stand up and band together to protect the persecuted. Which should be obvious. The doc’s point is weakened by its narrow sampling – all the picked-on kids are lower-middle-class residents of rural communities. Dismayingly, director Lee Hirsch’s doc was initially released unrated (thus limiting its audience) because the MPAA threatened to slap an “R” on it for language any schoolkid in the country hears every day.
