World, Latin, & Reggae

When: Fri., Nov. 5, 8 p.m. 2010

Buika brings her own unique flavor to Latin music. She was born on Mallorca to parents from Equatorial Guinea, where she fell in love with flamenco guitar and gypsy jazz. While working as a Tina Turner impersonator in Las Vegas, she picked up a bit of soul and R&B. She's lent her voice to some disco hits, but her heart and soul is in her own style of fusion, a combination of African, flamenco, jazz and other Latin styles. She's touring to support El Ultimo Trago, an album of songs made famous by the Mexican singer Chavela Vargas with arrangements that blend bolero with Afro-Cuban jazz. At Zellerbach Hall (UC Berkeley Campus) Friday, Nov 5  8 p.m. $26-$34
