Buffalo Killers

When: Mon., Aug. 1, 7 p.m. 2011

In the five years since Buffalo Killers emerged from the ashes of Cincinnati garage rockers Thee Shams, the power trio, led by brothers Zachary and Andrew Gabbard, has garnered quite a following, thanks to a sound steeped in swampy psychedelic blues-rock. So it's no surprise that Chris Robinson tapped the threesome to open for the Black Crowes the year after Buffalo Killers released its 2006 self-titled debut. Or that fellow Ohioan Dan Auerbach produced and engineered the 2008 follow-up, Let It Ride. This special kind of Buckeye love has extended to the recently-released 3, which not only has the Gabbards singing like James Gang-era Joe Walsh, but boasts a guest shot by Breeders guitarist Kelley Deal, a Dayton native. Concert-goers are encouraged to sport OSU regalia when Buffalo Killers hit the stage at Hemlock Tavern (1131 Polk St., San Francisco) on Monday, Aug. 1. 7 p.m., $6.
