When: Sat., Nov. 25, 7 p.m. 2017
After briefly moving to Atlanta, Oakland-raised Shayla “ShaylaBang” Jamerson realized just how much she admired her hometown. So, in 2015 she founded SoOakland, an event production collective that aims to “party with a purpose” — i.e., to encourage Oaklanders to network, socialize, and change the negative perception of the city at the same time. After just one year of partying the SoOakland way, Mayor Libby Schaff proclaimed July 30, 2016 “SoOakland Day.” On Nov. 25, SoOakland will bring back its second annual Adult Prom to give Oaklanders a chance to relive their prom — or create a new memory. So, break out your finest outfit, get your boutonnieres and corsages ready, and prepare for a nostalgic night at the Lakeside Park Garden Center, where, just like in high school, prizes will be awarded for best dressed man and woman. But, unlike high school, there will be bottle service.
