Brilliant Colors

When: Sat., March 16, 9:30 p.m. 2013

What better way to celebrate Spring's longer days and warmer nights than dancing to noisy, jangly pop from three excellent local bands? Since its 2009 debut Introducing, Brilliant Colors has combined punk attitude, garage rock simplicity, and melodic pop hooks in a style all its own. The female trio's breathy vocal harmonies evoke Sixties' girl groups, but before it can sound too precious or pretty, it layers in abrasive post-punk distortion, the atonal style of no-wave, and riotous Nineties' indie rock. At the Hemlock Tavern (1131 Polk St., San Francisco) show on Saturday, Mar. 16, be sure to pick up Brilliant Colors' new self-released flexi-single with two songs that perfectly exhibit each side of the band's personality: The infectiously bright pop ditty "I Was Born a Fantasist"; and the volatile, echo-drenched, "How I Solved the Problem of My Pride." Brilliant Colors is joined by its Slumberlandlabelmates, The Mantles, and garage punk band Scrapers. 9:30 p.m., $8. HemlockTavern.com
