Bravado: The Middle School Musical

Commissioned by new family-style theater company Berkeley Playhouse, Bravadois a new musical about middle-school thespians auditioning for a high school for the arts, tackling teen and tween coming-of-age issues with music by Phil Gorman, lyrics by Lila Tschappat, and a book by Laura Marlin. Nineteen members of Berkeley Playhouse's youth company perform the original musical as a culmination of their summer camp program, directed by company founder Elizabeth McKoy as assisted by Kimberly Dooley. Eight of the teens are veterans of McKoy's previous children's theater group, Imagination Players. August 8 to 10 at Ashby Stage (1901 Ashby Ave., Berkeley).
