In honor of our upcoming Holiday Guide on November 25, which features top-ten album reviews by a number of EBX staffers and contributors, here are a few lists already released by other outlets. Consider them top-ten snacks before your top-ten meal next week.
About.com's top alternative albums of the first half of '09: Featuring East Bay act Cryptacize, safe year-end bets Animal Collective and Grizzly Bear, and a shared favorite of yours truly, the Decemberists.
A blog called Best Albums of 2009 gives another nod to Animal Collective and wisely rates Japandroids and Isis highly. Just beyond the top ten are Tortoise, Russian Circles, and Mastodon.
Aggregate site MetaCritic.com has Nirvana way out front, with Leonard Cohen at number two, Animal Collective at number three, and Grizzly Bear at number nine. Also of note is top-notch Malian duo Amadou and Mariam, making a strong showing at number seven.
And finally, a less well-known aggregate site called Best Ever Albums has Animal Collective AGAIN at number one (now might be a good time to mention I'm a bit of a detractor), as well as far too much mainstream rock including Muse, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian, and the East Bay's favorite son Green Day.
