Rated PG-13 104 minutes 2013

Following in the footsteps of The Artist, this tribute to the silent movies of the 1920s is a completely enchanting fairy tale lovingly decorated with romantic visuals. The eponymous unwanted stepdaughter (Sofia Oria as a child, Macarena García as an adult) of an injured torero (Daniel Giménez Cacho) chafes against her wicked stepmother (Maribel Verdú) and bonds with a troupe of seven little-people bullfighters on her way to putting the “Snow White” legend into an early-20th-century Spanish setting. Writer-director Pablo Berger benefits from the spirited playing of Verdú and García, and with the added spectacle of Alfonso de Villalonga’s cinematography and sparkling flamenco music by Juan “Chicuelo” Gómez and Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Berger’s homage to the silent age is worth seeing again. In sharp-focus black and white. (104 min.)
