Blackbird Blackbird

When: Wed., Sept. 14, 9 p.m. 2011

This just in: Local boys drop beats with an indie edge next week in Potrero Hill! Okay, that might not actually sound too stirring. But these guys have the power to make you shake. Prolific San Francisco artist Blackbird Blackbird is continually stepping up his beat game. On a proper sound system, some of his stuff warrants a Richter scale measurement. Other tunes are nostalgic -- disco-y even. Sacramento's Teddy Briggs will open the show in a fashion more akin to Oakland ex-pats WHY?. Briggs' solo project Appetite just released Scattered Smothered Covered, which boldly throws his lyrically precise songwriting over beats that land somewhere between jazz and hip-hop.  It should be a pleasure to watch; Briggs has recruited members of Hella, Ellie Fortune, Chelsea Wolfe, and Sea of Bees to help him play the album live. Portland's RadiationCity is a bit of a non sequitur in the mix, but should provide a fun contrast at the very least. At Bottom Of The Hill (1233 17th St., San Francisco) on Wednesday, Sept. 14. 9 p.m., $8.
