Black Choreographers Festival: Here & Now

Now in its seventh year of showcasing African and African-American dance and culture, the Black Choreographers Festival: Here & Now opens Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12, at LaneyCollege(900 Fallon St., Oakland). This year's roster of dynamic dancemakers includes Zak Diouf and Naomi Washington of Oakland's incomparable DiamanoCoura West African Dance Company; Corey Action and Teela Shine, hip-hop artists who helm New Style Motherlode in Rockridge; East Bay-based international dance artist Mahea Uchiyama; Tyler Knowlin's urban tap dance; and contemporary movement by Brazilian Paco Gomes and PUSH Dance's Raissa Simpson. Artists this varied are bound to pique curiosity, so a question-and-answer session follows the Friday performance.
