Birds & Batteries

When: Mon., Dec. 1, 8 p.m. 2008

Plenty of Bay Area bands continue to buoy the indie/shoegaze/psych sound, but few do it as convincingly as San Francisco's the Junior Panthers. While unabashedly wearing their influences on their sleeve (the Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Primal Scream), the Panthers craft a gauzy pop sound fueled by sweetly sung melodies and fuzzy, raucous guitar riffs. Check out their latest batch of songs from this year's Sirens album when they open for Birds & Batteries and Strip Mall Architecture at Cafe du Nord (2170 Market St., San Francisco) on Monday, Dec. 1. 8 p.m., $10.
