When: Sun., Sept. 20, 12 p.m. 2015
The idea of going to a protest can be intimidating for those who don’t run within activist circles. The Bicycle Music Festival and Climate Rally, however, offers a fun and accessible alternative for folks who want to support the climate justice movement but aren’t necessarily up for risking arrest or putting their physical safety on the line. Now in its eighth year, the Bicycle Music Fest coincides with Walk Oakland Bike Oakland’s Love our Lake Day, when streets around Lake Merritt will be closed to cars. BMF features a lineup of local bands and speakers on a pedal-powered stage, as well as pedal-powered smoothies, ice cream, and other treats. Around 5 p.m., the festival will hit the streets and the band Major Powers & the Lo-Fi Symphony will play on a mobile stage as attendees cycle over to Omni Commons (4799 Shattuck Ave., Oakland), where the music will continue late into the evening.
