Claddagh Yarns

With the closure of Oakland’s beloved Article Pract on Christmas Eve 2014, East Bay fiber artists needed a new home. Enter Claddagh, whose excellent selection of interesting yarns, cool classes, and free knit nights make it your best bet. Bright, modern, and friendly, Claddagh is everything you could ask for from a knittery. The little shop is located on a quiet street of the Gourmet Ghetto, near the original Peet’s. With its neat white cubbyholes stocked with colorful local and imported fibers and ever-changing window display of fun knits, Claddagh is a great place to get inspired. And unlike a lot of well-stocked yarn stores, which can be intimidating for beginners, Claddagh has staffers who are very welcoming. Try the free community knit nights on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month, or enroll in one of several rotating classes. Or, unless the communal table at the center of the store is in use for a class, just pull up a seat and knit, purl in this airy space.
