Whether you're a casual wino, a committed oenophile, or, more likely, somewhere in between, David Sharp is exactly the kind of person you want at your side when buying wine. As the owner of the Wine Mine — the best shop of its kind in Temescal, and quite possibly, all of the East Bay — not only will he (non-pushily) offer guidance/advice/moral support as you attempt to wrap your head around his store's extensive, handpicked selection, he will, invariably, be absolutely right. Better yet, he'll barely bat an eye even if you come at him with a comically low price point, a super-specific request, or an impossibly vague and abstract conception of what you're looking for. Rumor has it he purposefully marks his bottles up less than the competition, and he and the store make a point of engaging the community, both by supporting local sports and school groups and by hosting weekly $1 wine tastings. As an extra-special bonus, he keeps what must be the best store blog around, a frequently updated and disarmingly funny chronicle of his purchases, discoveries, and insights. Basically, this man is your new best friend.
