Best Way to Drink Your Dessert

Mayan Decadence at Ivy Room

Why eat your dessert and drink your booze when you could do both AT THE SAME TIME? The newly reopened Ivy Room's Mayan Decadence manages to be both sweet-tooth-satisfyingly chocolatey, seriously boozy, beautifully layered, and remarkably sophisticated, with none of that milkshakey heaviness you often find in dessert drinks — just a healthy base of Chinaco Añejo tequila; the subtly herbal hit of xtabentún honey and anise liqueur; sweet and spicy molé and chocolate bitters; and an orange peel to cut a bit of the richness, served over ice. This is a dessert drink for grown-ups, or maybe it's not even a dessert drink at all. Either way, it's worth a trip.
