924 Gilman

924 Gilman has been “doing it for the kids” since way back in 1986. Now many of those kids are old enough to have kids of their own. All-ages, volunteer-run, and with a policy of no drugs and alcohol, no racism, sexism, or homophobia, Gilman has always been a safe space for kids of all ages to enjoy the local punk scene as well as hosting bands from around the country and indeed the globe. Gilman has been instrumental in the underground music scene, having given a start to such notable bands as Operation Ivy, Rancid, AFI, and of course Green Day. Despite its reputation as a “punk rock mecca,” Gilman remains humble and sticks to it’s original philosophy of encouraging all who come to take an active role, volunteer, or even start a band. Due to a recent rent hike, 924 Gilman is now in danger of closing, and as a truly homegrown institution, needs your help now more than ever. So what are you waiting for, punk?
