Best Trainspotting

Brennan's

Somewhere along the way, airplanes and train stations lost their romance. Tom Hanks did all he could for airports in The Terminal but even the nicest guy in Hollywood couldn't save them from utter despair. Thankfully, there is still hope for trains. Brennan's, a Berkeley institution since 1959, serves as the perfect spot to sit and watch the trains go by, while enjoying the romance and mystery — where are all the people going, what's their story? The rumble, clatter, and commotion as the metallic machines pull out of the Berkeley station is perfect alongside a pint and piles of comfort food favorites such as carved meat, mashed potatoes, and boiled cabbage, all topped with gravy. Brennan's serves two things perfectly: regulars and Irish coffees, and you'll always find both at the bars. With sports on the TV and a reliable blue plate special (even if the plate is white), you can slip back into a simpler era where baggage fees, delays, and crowded seats were only worries of the future.
