Secret Scoop

After popping up at special events for a few years, designer-by-trade Funn Fisher opened Secret Scoop as a full-fledged Thai gelato shop last year. It’s a welcomed addition to Berkeley’s dessert landscape, which, while full of East Asian flavors, seriously lacks Southeast Asian representation. At Secret Scoop, the gelato and sorbet flavors sing: chocolate lemongrass, salted tamarind, taro, roasted coconut, and more rotate in and out every week. The mango tastes so intense that you might close your eyes and believe you’re on the streets of Chiang Mai. Top scoops with fun jellies, jackfruit, or pandan sticky rice. And if you’re a first-timer, the mini palettes deal is a prime opportunity, giving you four mini scoops plus sticky rice and one additional topping. Other options include pandan crepes and toast slathered with kaya, but really, you’re here for the gelato.
