The Lawrence Hall of Science is, for the most part, known for its kid-friendly exhibits, entertainment, and science errata — but after hours, it’s a truly excellent place for decidedly more, ah, adult activities. Less crowded than Indian Rock, less cheesy than the Berkeley Rose Garden, and less creepy than the Mountain View Cemetery, it’s the unsung, under-the-radar local hero of al-fresco frottage, with plenty of seating (the best of which is atop LHS’ life-size fin whale replica, Pheena); lots of space; and a sweeping, heart-stopping view of much of the East Bay, and, beyond that, the bay and the Golden Gate Bridge. Wait for a clear night, grab a bottle of wine and a willing partner, and get to it.
