Hemp, a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant, is known to have over 25,000 possible applications. It can be used to make paper, oil, medicine, clothing, rope, and even food. The people at All Things Hemp know this. Formerly known as Dr. J's Closet, a consignment shop for women's wear, the Grand Lake space has now become the East Bay's first store completely dedicated to hemp. Storeowners Janet and Kim McAfee, who are hemp users themselves, made the change to reflect a rising interest in the plant's many uses and benefits in the Bay Area. It also makes sense to their customer base — the store originally catered to fashion-forward seniors, and a large part of the hemp movement is seniors choosing the natural route to treat physical and mental ailments over prescription drugs. Give the store a visit and go wild — they sell everything from wearables to edibles.
