Since opening a couple years ago, Seven Salon has swiftly and deservedly racked up accolades for its scalp massages (spine-tingling, in the best way possible); its haircuts (decently priced, consistently good); its stylists (well-trained, not too chatty); and its refreshments (free, alcoholic). But here’s what really makes Seven stand out: All this comes with nary a word about whatever new $40 bottle of chemicals and purified water you just need to have if you want your hair to get shinier/straighter/stronger/longer/happier/healthier/do whatever new thing we’ve now decided hair should do in addition to covering your head. Sure, the place is well-stocked with products from the likes of Keratese and Shu Uemura, and stylists are happy to help if you’ve got a question, but they’ll never force something on you unsolicited, and you’ll never feel like you’re being backed into a corner. It’s refreshing.
