Best Place to Buy Stationery

Twig and Fig

Just when you start to feel that the old-fashioned stationery store is dead, sadly subsumed by the Amazons and Office Depots of the world, you find yourself walking through North Berkeley's quiet, tree-shaded Walnut Square and happen upon this, a little jewel-box of a store absolutely filled to the brim with the kind of thing you'd simply never find at a big-box store: Creamy cardstocks that feel almost too substantial to write on; delicate little notepads and big, heavy pens; vintage leather journals and contemporary-feeling, entirely whimsical card sets. That's not to mention the shop's brisk custom-design arm, which offers wedding and other event invitations, in addition to customized personal stationery, calling cards, and the like. The prices are reasonable, the service is delightful, and, hey, no shipping fees.
