Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline

The East Bay has no shortage of recreational bike paths that provide scenic park routes away from busy urban streets. While some of the most picturesque paths are up in the Oakland hills, residents of the rest of the city don’t have to do exhausting uphill treks to find a nice weekend ride. Martin Luther King Jr. Regional Shoreline, an East Bay Regional Park District site, offers easy and fun biking opportunities that are ideal for families. The 741-acre park, just east of the Coliseum in East Oakland, features a network of paved trails that are ideal for exploring on bike. The park and its bike paths are easily accessible from the San Francisco Bay Trail and provide cyclists views of the rare protected marshland of the bay. The shoreline park offers a great trip for families with young children — not only because of the flat bike trails amid a natural landscape. In addition to bicycling, the shoreline is a great location for picnicking, bird-watching, fishing, and other kid-friendly outdoor activities — all very accessible within city limits.
